Installing WordPress on 1and1.com - Part Two
Choosing a Domain or Transferring an Existing Domain
We will begin this exercise by logging into our 1and1 account. This is done by going to http://1and1.com, the clicking "Customer Login" on the second line in the upper right corner of the opened page. Enter the userID and password you received when you set up your 1and1 hosting account in Part One of this series. Then select the 1&1Home package to get to the page illustrated below if it is not already visible.

Then click "Manage Domains" in the left column to get to the window shown below where you can obtain new domains or transfer your existing domains.

Click the arrow to the right of "New" in the header, and select "Add Domain" in the drop down menu. This means you are adding a domain to your plan, even if you already own the domain hosted elsewhere. If you are going to transfer a domain from another registrar, you must first unlock the domain, and possibly get a transfer code to authorize 1and1 to complete a transfer. Check with your existing registrar for transfer details.

Enter a domain in the box (example.com) and click "check domain. 1and 1 will check the domain name and will notify you if i is available, or if it is taken, you will get the window illustrated below.

If you own the domain you can initiate the transfer process, or if you don't own the selected domain, you can search again using a different name. If you selected the 1&1 Home plan, you can add another domain (total 2) for no additional charge. As a reminder, this plan allows unlimited domains on the plan, but if you choose to have them registered with 1and1, more than 2 will cost $5.95 per year each. This is probably cheaper than the plan you have now.
We now have the Hosting plan and the domain. Part Three will cover the Establishment of an FTP account and uploading of WordPress
