Installing WordPress on 1and1.com - Part Three

Creating a Database on your Host (1and1.com)

The next step we must complete is the creation of a database for WordPress on your hosting account.  While the instructions given here are specifically for 1and1, the procedure should be very similar for any host.  In any event these instructions should give you the information necessary to tackle the job on your own.  So let's get started.

We again log into the 1and1 account  at http://1and1.com using our userID (or domain name) and password to get to the administrative page.

Click on the MySQL Administration icon (emphasized by the red arrow above).  Then

Click "New Database" (shown above) This illustration shows several pre-existing databases that I already have.  Since you have a new account, there will be no entries in this table.  Clicking the "New Database" icon ill take you to the page illustrated below.

On the resulting page, enter a name for your database.  This is a name you use to identify the database, because MySql creates the database using random identifiers for name and password.  I suggest you use the portion of the domain name before the dot.  Example: If your domain is example.com, use example as the name for the database.  After entering the name, click "Setup"

After a few seconds, the database is created, and a screen is presented showing the database name, password and other information we will need to link to WordPress (Part 5 of this series)  You may copy this information to Notepad, or get it later.  After viewing the information in the window, Click "Go to Overview" and  return to the window where we can create another database or logout of 1and1.  This portion of our installation is complete.
