  • Start at the Beginning

    When we are learning, it makes sense to follow the advice of Lewis Carroll's Mad Hatter: “Start at the beginning and when you come to the end, stop."  The question we then must answer is: "Where is the beginning, and how do we know when we are at the end?"
    For our purposes in developing a personal website or blog, we will actually have three beginning-points, and each will be placed in one of the following categories:

    Getting a domain

    Choosing a web host and platform

    Optimization and monetization

    Naturally, some of the topics will end sooner than others.  Indeed, the final item of optimization and monetization, will probably never end.

    I have spent countless hours of research and experimentation developing websites for the purpose of presenting material that interests me, and at the same time tried to monitize them to produce a sustainable source of income which would at least pay for the domain and hosting fees. (…)
